6 Medicinal Herbs to Boost Your Immune System

Santorini, Greece

Did you know that medicinal herbs can give your immune system a much-needed boost? Our herbalist collected her favorite medicinal plants for your immune system in this blog post. Keep reading to be prepared for the flu season!

Artemisia Annua

In traditional Chinese medicine, Artemisia Annua was used to combat fever and alleviate symptoms of illness. Artemisinin extract, the main component of Artemisia Annua, was a leading way to treat malaria.

Populations in China and Africa have used Artemisia Annua to treat COVID-19 and scientists have argued for more clinical trials to study its effectiveness. Use this powerful plant to boost immunity and relieve pain and swelling in the body.

Reishi

Reishi is a medicinal mushroom used in many of the drinks at our Alchemy Bar. This amazing medicinal plant boasts of a variety of health benefits, from blood sugar control to its cancer-fighting properties.

Scientists have studied the immune-boosting properties of Reishi, botanically known as Ganoderma lucidum, and concluded that they were “extensive.” The mushroom is thought to boost the activity of a certain blood cell type called “natural killer cells,” which fight infections in the body.

Reishi mushroom is one of the main ingredients in Herbalista’s Funghi Tonic. Blend it with plant-based milk to revitalize and build stronger immunity to disease.

Cordyceps

Commonly known as a medicinal mushroom, Cordyceps is actually a parasitic fungus. It grows out of animals, mostly a certain type of a caterpillar in China. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, Cordyceps was used to treat sickness and chronic fatigue.

Modern scientists have confirmed Cordyceps’ immunity-boosting properties. Use it to support healthy energy levels and promote physical vitality. An adaptogen, it shields your body from the negative effects of stress and lowers inflammation.

Chaga

Another medicinal mushroom on Herbalista’s immunity-boosting arsenal, Chaga supports the immune system and fights against disease. Full of antioxidants, it boasts of antiviral and antimicrobial properties.

Ask our herbalist to make you a tonic with chaga at our Alchemy Bar or sip it on your way to the airport. If you’re looking for more recipes to include medicinal mushrooms in your health rituals, check out Herbalista’s E-Book, Plant-Based Concoctions to Enhance Adaptability and Wellness.

Turmeric

Here at Herbalista we love to use Turmeric in our natural beauty rituals, but our herbalist also praises it for its immunity-strengthening properties. This medicinal plant has powerful anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and antimicrobial properties, which contribute to a better functioning immune system.

Enjoy our Golden Mylk Ayurvedic Adaptogen Herbal Supplement and support your immune system by lowering inflammation.

Olive Leaf

You may have heard about the amazing health benefits of olive oil, but did you know that the leaves of the olive tree deserve a place in your health routine as well? Olive leaves are rich in polyphenols, beneficial compounds with strong antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.

Olive leaf improves immune function and combats viral infections, strengthening your body.

Experience the power of olive leaf in Herbalista’s Immune Fortifier, a unique raw honey formula infused with 12 medicinal plants. Packed with adaptogen medicinal mushrooms, Vitamin C, and zinc, it’s perfect for fighting viruses and cough relief. Also try the newest herbal tea Immuni-tea, an excellent treatment for covid.

My newest and most popular creation, a deep, rich, animalic, musky and savage perfume with a tropical touch.

With base notes of Woody, ambery, spicy, animalic. Very intense, warm OUD, gourmand VANILLA grounded with woody and earthy VETIVER.

Hints of Musky, Powdery, Warm & Fruity AMBER and Musk.

Combined to heart notes of Vanilla, coconut, with nuances of banana and pineapple.

Slightly fruity, sweet and spicy coriander seed.

Embraced by sweet and earthy patchouli.

Crowned with lemon and grassy herbals, kissed with a bright floral note Lemon verbena,
Juicy peach, berries, floral apple and plum.

The perfume comes in a glass roll-on bottle filled with crystals.

The scent will make you feel like the lyrics of this song 😋

This one herb could save you if you had to survive in the jungle.

Caribbean pharmacopeia // Moringa oleifera

Moringa is considered a « nutrient powerhouse » because it is packed with an impressive array of essential vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and other phytochemicals that are beneficial for human health.

Here are some of the key nutrients and compounds found in moringa leaves:

🌿Vitamins: Moringa is rich in vitamins A, C, and E, as well as B-complex vitamins such as thiamin, riboflavin, niacin, and folate.

🌿Minerals: contains high levels of calcium, potassium, iron, and magnesium, as well as trace minerals like zinc, manganese, and selenium.

🌿Antioxidants: rich source of antioxidants such as quercetin, chlorogenic acid, and beta-carotene, which help protect the body against oxidative stress and cellular damage.

🌿Amino acids: contain all of the essential amino acids, making it a complete protein source.

🌿In some traditional cultures, Moringa roots are used as a condiment or spice to add flavor to dishes. They are often grated or mashed into a paste and used to add a sharp, pungent flavor to sauces, soups, and stews.

This is due to the presence of glucosinolates, a type of phytochemical found in the roots of the Moringa tree. Glucosinolates are responsible for the sharp, pungent flavor in many cruciferous vegetables, such as mustard, horseradish, and wasabi.

Next time you walk by a moringa tree, eat the young shoots and get your natural dose of multi-vitamins 💪🏽

If you read so far, you might interested to join me on my annual Caribbean medicinal plant walk, on the 19th of February. I pinned the info on my feed. Dm me to reserve your spot!

Who else eats moringa when passing by it?

Oshun

This precious Madagascar Vanilla glycerite infused with rose petals.

It took a 7 months maceration process to get this vanilla tasting like heaven.

A powerful heart opener and soother.

Micro dose directly by putting a couple of drops in the mouth or add drops to a chocolate latté, a vanilla ice cream…

I have made a small batch and have a couple of bottles left, come try it out. National shipping is also available.

Never then before have we realized how precious is our respiratory system’s health.

I have seen many cases of weakened lungs after recovering from lungs infections and felt like I wanted to help more as an herbalist. It is after taking an herbalism certificate on the respiratory system and infections, where my teacher have been sharing a lot about her experience in the past 2 years and the herbs that have been helpful in her practice that I discovered many new respiratory system herbs.

Herbs that can help replenish the vital force of the lungs, strengthen the lungs, help expel mucus, reduce inflammation, expand breathing abilities, stimulate and boost the immune system to fight infections.

Herbs that can be taken to help if recovering from any type of lung infection, reduce asthma atacks or after smoking for many years and feeling debilitated.

I have worked with these plants and combined them in one single remedy. It is with a lot of satisfaction that I would like to introduce you to one of my latest creations: Bionic Lungs broad spectrum syrup.

It contains Osha root, aka bear medicine, a root that is found in the northern parts of North America. A highly aromatic root that has a peculiar scent that reminds me of the resinous woods I like to burn like palo santo, cedar wood etc.

Codonopsis, a Chinese pharmacopeia root that strengthen the Qi of depleted lungs, when that depletion is due to excessive sadness and mourning.

Lobelia, this controversial plant that has saved many from serious asthma atacks.

Swipe through the carousel I posted to know about the other herbs and what Osha does.

The Bionic Lungs made in small batches by an herbalist and can be purchased at the apothecary or online for national shipping straight to your door. Visit my website for more details.

If you found value, give value back by liking and sharing this priceless information.

Also, if you would like to receive my emails for more herbal teachings straight to your inbox and be informed every time a new remedy is created, comment newsletter to receive the link.
