6 Medicinal Herbs to Boost Your Immune System

Santorini, Greece

Did you know that medicinal herbs can give your immune system a much-needed boost? Our herbalist collected her favorite medicinal plants for your immune system in this blog post. Keep reading to be prepared for the flu season!

Artemisia Annua

In traditional Chinese medicine, Artemisia Annua was used to combat fever and alleviate symptoms of illness. Artemisinin extract, the main component of Artemisia Annua, was a leading way to treat malaria.

Populations in China and Africa have used Artemisia Annua to treat COVID-19 and scientists have argued for more clinical trials to study its effectiveness. Use this powerful plant to boost immunity and relieve pain and swelling in the body.

Reishi

Reishi is a medicinal mushroom used in many of the drinks at our Alchemy Bar. This amazing medicinal plant boasts of a variety of health benefits, from blood sugar control to its cancer-fighting properties.

Scientists have studied the immune-boosting properties of Reishi, botanically known as Ganoderma lucidum, and concluded that they were “extensive.” The mushroom is thought to boost the activity of a certain blood cell type called “natural killer cells,” which fight infections in the body.

Reishi mushroom is one of the main ingredients in Herbalista’s Funghi Tonic. Blend it with plant-based milk to revitalize and build stronger immunity to disease.

Cordyceps

Commonly known as a medicinal mushroom, Cordyceps is actually a parasitic fungus. It grows out of animals, mostly a certain type of a caterpillar in China. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, Cordyceps was used to treat sickness and chronic fatigue.

Modern scientists have confirmed Cordyceps’ immunity-boosting properties. Use it to support healthy energy levels and promote physical vitality. An adaptogen, it shields your body from the negative effects of stress and lowers inflammation.

Chaga

Another medicinal mushroom on Herbalista’s immunity-boosting arsenal, Chaga supports the immune system and fights against disease. Full of antioxidants, it boasts of antiviral and antimicrobial properties.

Ask our herbalist to make you a tonic with chaga at our Alchemy Bar or sip it on your way to the airport. If you’re looking for more recipes to include medicinal mushrooms in your health rituals, check out Herbalista’s E-Book, Plant-Based Concoctions to Enhance Adaptability and Wellness.

Turmeric

Here at Herbalista we love to use Turmeric in our natural beauty rituals, but our herbalist also praises it for its immunity-strengthening properties. This medicinal plant has powerful anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and antimicrobial properties, which contribute to a better functioning immune system.

Enjoy our Golden Mylk Ayurvedic Adaptogen Herbal Supplement and support your immune system by lowering inflammation.

Olive Leaf

You may have heard about the amazing health benefits of olive oil, but did you know that the leaves of the olive tree deserve a place in your health routine as well? Olive leaves are rich in polyphenols, beneficial compounds with strong antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.

Olive leaf improves immune function and combats viral infections, strengthening your body.

Experience the power of olive leaf in Herbalista’s Immune Fortifier, a unique raw honey formula infused with 12 medicinal plants. Packed with adaptogen medicinal mushrooms, Vitamin C, and zinc, it’s perfect for fighting viruses and cough relief.

“We love surfers for the same reasons we have always admired doctors and pilots and firemen and shamans, for the same reasons we admire excellent soldiers: because despite themselves they have bowed to a force much greater than themselves, which in this case is the wave, and submitted to the gnarly rigors of its discipline. They have allowed themselves to be shaped and polished by the sea. They have given themselves up to this greater force, day after day, year after year. Crushed and punished, battered into something tempered and resilient, and sharpened to an edge by constant refinement. They are warriors in the best sense: by bending to the often brutal demands of surfing they have transformed themselves into beings who can respond to great violence with grace and humility. And beauty.” — Peter Heller Kook: What Surfing Taught Me About Love, Life, and Catching the Perfect Wave 📷@wolfphotographe #surfingisthecure

WANT TO KNOW WHAT THE BUZZ IS ABOUT? 🐝 Save this post 👇🏽 Bee pollen comes from foraging honey bees, a collect the pollen of plants and contains a mix of nectar, enzymes, honey, and wax that forms as bees interact with flowers. This mixture is packed with vitamins, minerals, and amino acids just to name a few. This powerful pollen is also high in antioxidants, protein, and loaded with essential nutrients. It is a superfood that packs a major punch. Some of my favorite benefits to buzz about are: 🐝 Anti-inflammatory Because of the high concentration of flavonoids and phenolic compounds, it is a great anti-inflammatory. While reduced inflammation is great for your overall wellbeing, your liver in particular can enjoy the benefits of bee pollen. By promoting healing and assisting with the removal of waste from your blood, you are left with a healthier liver to help you detox and regenerate. 🐝 Immunity Everything from allergies to more serious illnesses can be remedied with the help of bee pollen. As it as strong antimicrobial properties and can kill potentially harmful bacteria, as well as offers an immune system boost, you can reduce the severity of what is attacking your immune defenses and be better prepared to fight against whatever else is out there. 🐝 Antioxidant Bee pollen is full of antioxidants that work inside and out! The flavonoid rutin strengthens blood vessel walls, supporting your heart and circulatory systems. It may also help reduce the signs of aging. A topical application of bee pollen can leave you and your skin refreshed and energized. 🐝 Nutrient Utilization As it is so nutrient dense and contains many vitamins and minerals that promote absorpotion of nutrients, bee pollen can help you take the most out of your diet. From iron, to calcium, to amino-acids, you can soak up the things your body needs while also bolstering your metabolism and muscle growth. Want to try it out? Bee pollen is featured in the IMMUNE FORTIFIER raw honey infused with medicinal herbs, available for international shipping and the Detox Cure Program, a 1-Day healing detox, available for order from the Apothecary for the Cabarete and Sosua area✨

Nature heals you. While we all love a breathtaking view or taking a stroll in the fresh air, nature can provide us with even more than a good time on a sunny day. In fact, connecting with nature is a powerful way to find healing, harmony, and ultimate happiness. Grounding, or maintaining physical contact with the Earth, will stabilize your energy. It can reduce your pain, stress, improve your circulation, recharge and regenerate you by engaging with the Earth’s surface electrons and channeling this energy throughout your body. Sun-gazing can reinvigorate you, help you focus, and clear your mind. The sun’s rays also boost your endorphins; basking in its warmth and looking to it for guidance can bring you a newfound positive energy. Listening to the waves can help bring the systems of your body into tune. The rhythmic sounds of the sea help provide a stable frequency that your brainwaves can find harmony with, allowing it to better address what might be troubling other parts of your body. Stimulating our senses by means of nature is a way to reset your nervous system and correct any dissonance. When we are unbalanced, it is difficult to manage stress or protect ourselves, but connecting with nature can bring the body’s systems back into order. Nature is a part of our bodies. The four elements, earth, water, air, and fire, are all deeply ingrained and living inside of each of us. When we are disconnected from nature, we are missing an integral part of what makes us... us. This can leave us depressed and suffering, but nature can provide us the healing we need. It is no accident that green is both the color of nature and the heart chakra💚 As without, so within ✨
